Sony phones often have a recognizable feature: the rims are quite thick compared to today's standards.
Until recently, Sony introduced two phones Xperia XZ2 and XZ2 Compact
with screen ratio 18: 9. The new design of the two devices is called
Ambient Flow, although the upper / lower edges are quite thick, but the
ratio of the screen compared to their body is higher than the
competition. Has Sony ever made a phone completely without the screen or
not? Maybe they thought about it!
In
an interview with product planning leader Takuya Ichino, we heard him
talk about Sony's views on the recent design changes in the mobile
industry.
Ichino
says the company looks at the functionality and features of the phone. A
device with much thinner borders will affect the location and
functionality of certain features. If the screen is stretched, they will
have to shrink the camera, or swap features like stereo speakers on the
front of the machine.
This even affects the viewing experience, and that's why the Xperia XZ2
Premium still uses the 16: 9 aspect ratio. Ichino says that the 18: 9
ratio will result in the appearance of the borders around the content
being displayed.
When
asked about the current trend of the phone without the screen, Ichino
confirmed Sony's design team was developing many feasible designs,
although the company did not necessarily rush to "race arms." Sony
believes that its smartphone must be easy to handle and deliver a good
viewing experience - and this will be affected if the screen border size
is reduced.
However, Sony said it will continue to improve to achieve a balance between functionality and design trends and current trends.
